The purpose of an Asbestos Management Survey is to locate ACM in the building and inform occupants of it’s location, condition and if there are certain measures that need to be taken.
Any non-domestic building built before 2000 should have a management asbestos survey in place. Any person with responsibilities regarding the maintenance or repair of non-domestic premises has a duty to manage asbestos under the Control of Asbestos Regulations. The management asbestos survey is part of that duty.
The Refurbishment / demolition Survey is required where the premises, or part of it, need upgrading, refurbishment or demolition. Refurbishment and demolition surveys are intended to locate all the asbestos in the building (or the relevant part), as far as is reasonably practicable.
Refurbishment and demolition surveys are fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary. Therefore, they should only be carried out in specific locations where refurbishment or demolition is planned.
